Short answer
The federal government announced that all employers will need a simple and flexible work-time-registration system from 2027. That announcement gives a clear direction, but it is not the same as a fully specified general obligation. Scope, required data, retention, and accepted systems must be checked again when final rules are available.
What has been announced
The official announcement refers to a work-time-registration system from 2027. That is a sensible basis for preparation. It is too early to claim that every employer already knows the required tool, reports, or retention periods.
The FPS Employment site also publishes information about measures that are already set out or being implemented. Use those pages for current rules. Use the 2027 announcement only for what it actually says.
Existing rules are not automatically the 2027 general rule
Some sectors already have their own attendance or performance rules. The official Check In and Out at Work information describes an existing obligation for certain cleaning activities. That rule has its own legal basis and scope. It does not prove that the same obligation already applies to every employer.
Read the separate guide to existing cleaning registration if you work in that sector.
Rules for part-time employees are also a separate subject. Always check the specific sector, activity, contract, and official conditions.
What can you do today?
Start with the information you need:
- Map the locations and customer addresses where people work.
- Describe when work starts, pauses, and ends.
- Decide who checks deviations and how quickly.
- Distinguish employees, agency workers, subcontractors, and other people involved.
- Record what you keep today and what you do not need.
With crewQI, employees can record start, breaks and finish by location. In the office, you can check timesheets, view materials by location and export data. crewQI does not decide which legal obligation applies to your company and does not guarantee legal compliance.
